"Undercover Officials Make Liquor Bust In Lynchburg"

Undercover agents in Lynchburg, Tennessee have busted a store for selling liquor without a liquor license and in the dry county in which Lynchburg is located.

Saturday, four undercover agents obtained permission to go inside Sulley’s, a store they suspected had been selling alcohol.

In a shed behind the store, they found bottle after bottle of alcohol.

“We were able to determine that people were coming in,” said an undercover agent. “We found all kinds of alcohol here.”

Agents said the investigation began over a month ago, when they discovered the Web site called Maxwell’s House.

“We were able to get on the Web site and observed all these people chatting about parties, and what have you here at the Jack Daniel’s, and also outside of the Jack Daniel’s venue,” the agent said.

The Web site led agents to their first raid Thursday night, at the Holiday Inn Select on Elm Hill Pike in Nashville.

There, agents confiscated over 340 bottles and more than $2,000 in cash.

“This is a major enterprise,” said the agent. “Every time we turn around, there’s something new. Just didn't realize it was there.”

Officials said they confiscated a million dollars worth of alcoholfrom two businesses and two storage units in Lynchburg.

Randy Piper is the store owner. He also owns Cowboy Jack’s, a store just a few doors down from Sulley’s.

Agents said there is just as much alcohol there.

Both Piper and his wife, Renee, deny the allegations.

“We did have a signing here yesterday,” said Renee Piper. “I don't believe you all saw any money change hands anywhere. People were picking up bottles that were left to be signed.”

Agents are also confiscating alcohol from Piper's home and several warehouses.

reminds me of the bootlegger back home in alabama. WE lived in a dry county. He was on the side of RR19 in a double-wide. Mostly sold booze from miss. so it was not only a dry county it also didn't have Ala taces paid. I was just a kid so I don't know if they sold corn liquor or not. Lots of the folks 'round town made their own so I doubt there'd be much market for it from the bootlegger.

Always knew who was cookin' when by which trees were dragged across which dirt roads that led nowhere.
