Got 15 Gallons free corn syrup..

Sugar, and all about sugar washes. Where the primary ingredient is sugar, and other things are just used as nutrients.

Got 15 Gallons free corn syrup..

Post by Kelbor »

...and I have no idea where to start with it. I have done all barley grains, real corn, molasses, fruits, etc. but have never attempted just a simple ol' corm syrup (Im actually against the whole idea of using crap like this but free is free!). I have done a few searches here and over at some other sites but have not found any 'tried and true' recipes.

Can anybody point me in a good direction? Is this stuff even worth messing with? I realize there won't be a corn flavor but I figure it may make an alright neutral...?

I guess what Im wondering is what sort of yeast bomb/nutrients will the stuff want to eat and if there is a preferred ph and gravity I should be shooting for.

Tha ks!

I would use it for the sugar in ujjsm. I would mix a pound of syrup in one gallon of water to check sg. Shoot for 1.06-8. Thats my opinion.

reading and don't ask stupid questions you'll be alright most are

From Tater's linked article:
Sweet corn is full of sugar in the form of carbohydrates. The corn’s starch is extracted and processed to produce corn syrup, which is 93 to 96 percent glucose.
It would seem to me that corn syrup being essentially glucose would be more readily consumed by yeast since it's one of two short-chained molecules that are formed in the inversion process of white sugar...the other being fructose. The corn syrup should make a pretty good sugarhead without the need for inversion.
I say use it. Just check your SG for what you want it to be.

Im picking it up tomorrow. I like the sound of Uncle Jessie's recipe and will give it a go. I did an all corn (with 5% rye actually) and will be interested to see how they stack up against each other. just got my fermenter cleared out and will fill her shortly.

Once again...thanks guys! Love this place!
