Propane Tank, and big burner?

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

Propane Tank, and big burner?

Post by Skymeat »

I've never used propane for anything. How long will a tank last (watermelon sized?) with a big burner? Will I need a second one in the middle of a run (10g wash in 15g keg)?

I get 6-7 runs per tank with a turkey burner.Once you get heated up you can turn the burner way down.I usually run 10 or 12 gallon batches.

Get a second tank. It really does suck to run out of propane halfway through your run.

Same deal I get 5-6 runs per tank, but always have a backup, ive been looking into an auto switchover unit that they have for RV's but havent found the need for it yet.

Thanks,
Sounds like if I just prepare and remember to top her off before use it won't be a problem. 1st run this weekend, we'll see.

I got 3 also. I like to smoke meats, and distill at the same time. Then if either of the units runs out (I rarely let the bottles get close to empty), I have the spare. I "could" even run the grill, but that is pushing it. Too much attention needed to grill. Smokin is slow and easy, like still'n. Get things running smoothly, and your set for several hours. Then just tend to it a little, and keep an eye on it to make sure that something does not go terribly wrong. When done, you get fresh smoked brats (or whatever), and some good white dog, yummy :)

My smoker runs on charcoal and wood.I smoke a few whole pork butts to make some mean pulled pork, and turkeys on the holidays. My gas grill gets the ribeyes, chicken breast, burgers etc.Not much better than a fast cooked nicely stripped ribeye thats pink in the middle.Damn,Im getting hungry!
