Saddle and Cone Layout tool

Post by MBF »

Don't know if anyone has found this one yet, but take a look:

Here is a link to a FREE tool that will allow you to calculate the layout points/templates for:

Saddle joints: input trunk OD, brank OD/ID, and branch angle (up to 64 ordinates)

Cones: Input large D and small D; gives you side angle based on length, or length based on side angle. Plus a layout guide that gives you an idea how to draw up the template.

There's plenty of online calcs but this one looks pretty nice. May have use for it myself when I design my next all copper build. Went with a template for my first, but want to make one "my own"....after my boka (which I may do dads or rads instead now) and after my flute lol. I love this hobby! Work shed is feeling used and abused!

Yeah, after I finally found this one, I started finding a few others. This one would be perfect if it had a "print to scale" option. I also found an good looking option for an app for my phone (Android), not free though.

I'm pretty sure I'll be using this or another app like it.

My 4" cross-flow condenser will have such a short "T" section that it makes sense to omit the expensive copper Tee from the design and just make the whole thing out of tubing.
Possibly the same thing for the VM take-off. Why use an expensive Tee, when you can create your own cone and then saddle it into the main column. That way you can dictate the length or side angle to suit yourself.
