What color should this be?

I am makeing my first run with a whiskey wash. The spirit is 180 proof but has a yellowish tint to it. Does this seem right or should it be water clear?

It sounds like you got some puke(foam from too fast a boil) in your spirit. Usually that means turning off the heat, cleaning your still and starting over. This time catch your boil up before it foams up.

So boil it faster or slower? And is that hurting the taste?

boil it slower. What pint said was you simply boiled over (or possibly, your still was still dirty).
