I just received my cork stoppers for my glass containers and they all fit like a sock on a rooster.
I bought them from Widgetco out of Houston,Tx. online http://www.widgetco.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

#34 size fits a small mouth mason jar

Damned if I know what "they all fit like a sock on a rooster" means but a #14 fits gallon apple juice jugs nicely.jloftin60 wrote:I just received my cork stoppers for my glass containers and they all fit like a sock on a rooster.

Re: Aging in jars with cork stoppers
The PTFE discs are probably a better solution -especially for long term storage. I have the disc for my regular mason jars for long term storage. I'll be buying a few of the 3.5" size discs for my 1 gallon aging jars. Might also get a few to fit the 1 gallon glass juice jugs I use for feints and low wines. If you have any concerns about what's used to seal the caps of whiskey bottles, I think they make the discs in those sizes too.

I have a large mouth mason jar with a cork in it. Now I can not get the cork out.

Yea, you gotta be kinda careful about how much pressure you put on those things when you seal the jar. Mine only go in about a quarter of an inch and that gives me a good bit to grab onto to pull them out. Even at that, sometimes it's a little difficult - gave myself a likker bath once.jloftin60 wrote:I have a large mouth mason jar with a cork in it. Now I can not get the cork out.

If you put the cork in too far you can warm the jar in a water bath until a bit of pressure builds up. That should make it easier to get out. Also dont store them in an area where it gets very cool overnight, it will suck them in deeper into the jar.

You can get them out with a cork screw, but it will ruin the cork.

Re: Aging in jars with cork stoppers
Might try this if ever you get them out and want to use them again - put a long piece of kitchen twine across the diameter of the jar opening and then insert the cork stopper, leaving the ends of the twine sticking out either side. Should give you something to grab onto to pull the corks out.
