anybody looked into this? my element is gunked up, and once some scorch builds ups seems its toast. Im doing a wheat run right now and its got some scorch smell, even tho I cleaned the damn element, and ran a 5 day settled clear wash!!
Anyway. Im gonna buy a supply of elements to swap out but thinking about trying some cookware teflon coatings on the element. Anyone gone there? Maybe a quick dip of the element in this stuff, and run it low, say 4000W max for a 5500 ULWD and could be a trick to keeping gunk for sticking and burning? At least get some more life out of these elements? They are rated for cookware, right over fire, so gotta handle the heat, spec'd top 500F

Teflon coatings for Elements???
In theory there's no difference between theory and practice. But in practice there is.

Re: Teflon coatings for Elements???
Did you clean the condenser? Every time I put something particularly stinky through a condenser, I give it an acetate soak and a pull through so that it won't stink up the next run, especially a final.
When I have had burn on, it's been my fault for putting silly stuff in the pot, not the fault of the element. I've had no trouble cleaning elements and have never had contamination in the next run.

Re: Teflon coatings for Elements???
might try burning off your element with lowered voltage.
outside the boiler heat up to ~300 degrees and wait for it to stop smokeing.
as far as coatings i read the link and wonder about the surface temp of the element under the coating

Temp is very hot. We use Teflon coating on the elements at work. If they are turned on with out proper agitation they burn up real fast.
