Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.
hey every one,
nube here. i have been reading on the site and the forum for about a month or two now. i have been shopping around for parts as well. one of the problems i was having was finding a pot that i was happy with. i was wondering if any one here had any experiance with enamel coated steel pots. i was looking at one like this.
the one i'm looking at is a bit bigger but the it has the same enamel finish on the inside and outside. they are pretty sturdy and inexpensive. any one have an thoughts. the enamel is made usually out of ceramic and/or porcelain
I use a pot like that to boil my wash in or make a beer wort with. I've had good luck with it over the years. But that is not a pot to be made into a boiler for a still unit.
cheers

If cost is a consideration: Look at the department stores for a 6 piece stainless set. It includes 4, 3, and 2 gallon pots with lids. The 4 gallon works good for the still, and the other two are good for mixing the mash, etc. Only costs $20 for the set at walmart. Good luck

A 4 gallon stainless pot at walmart costs $50, I've checked, and it only comes with a glass lid.
Kegs may be easy to find in Texas but everywhere else, it's hard and a 15 gallon sanke keg costs aroudn $50-$90 usually.

That is VERY cheap considering how much value and lifespan you get from it. I paid $40 and $50 for my two 50 litre (about 15 gallon) Sanke kegs, and don't regret it at all. It is less than I have to pay for a new 60 litre plastic fermenting barrel.
