dady starter
so i ordered some fleishmanns dady for the cooler winter months ferments. wondering what the best way to make starters with it is. ill be doing ujssm and sweetfeed and some AG bills. in the past for my sugar wash starters I have made them 4-12 hours ahead of pitch time using 1tbs sugar, warm water and fleishmanns bakers yeast. stirred well in a large cup then let sit. I would then pitch into wash and aerate for about 5-10 minutes using a drywall mixer on a drill. Am i doing this right for sugar washes like Ujssm and sweet feed? Should i do the same with the Dady yeast? Do i need to add nutrients to the starters? How would i go about doing this for a sugarhead? some simple advice on this would be helpful.

Dady is so cheap, starters aren't really necessary, just pitch enough yeast in the first place.

Re: dady starter
well i always made starters with bakers yeast. I had come to the conclusion that it gave them a chance to reproduce and ready themselves for alchohol production. It was also a good way to proof the yeast and make sure it was still good. less chance of some kind of infection getting in too.

Re: dady starter
I have awesome Results with this meathod and I also use daddy.
Fill a quart Mason jar half full of backset
Add 1/2 cup sugar and shake till dissolved
Add 6 teaspoons DADDY
Leave the top off it and wait
In an hour or two there will a rock concert going on in there. I use one of these for a 32 gallon brute and pull off a 1.056 to 1.0 ferment in a week in a cold basement. I got some bubble foil insulation from lowes that I tent up around my fermenters and just run an electric heater in there maintaining 79-80 degrees F. It works for me

Re: dady starter
Hydrate the yeast with a small amount of +- 100f pure water for 5 or 10 minutes.
Add it to a well aerated 1 gallon starter made from a "yeast bomb" that has a low SG, as in 1.02 - 1.04
Let it ferment for a couple hours before adding it to a bigger wash/mash that has also been aerated.
If you want the yeast to work the best, void any big changes in temperature, pH or SG when adding it to the next step.
DADY and bakers don't like cooler winter months.
If you want a low temp yeast then a beer yeast or better yet use ec1118 or k1-v1116.
