Making rum or whisky
What type of condenser do you use for making rum or whiskey? Thanks!

Re: Making rum or whisky
You asked something similar a while back related to making brandy. The terminology is still wrong. I suspect you mean, "what kind of still do I run to make whiskey or rum?". If that's the case, you could use a pot still, or you could use something like a CM with partial reflux. If you run much over 80%, you'll be stripping flavors and getting into neutral territory.

+1 type of condenser doesn't make a lick of difference. Type of still does. You might need to knuckle down and do so reading. Start with the link in my signature.
No, officer, I wasn't distilling alcohol! It was probably that guy!

Thanks for the link. But reading, looking at stills and asking a person that owns a brewery, changing the different condensers and technique will help with what spirit you are making. I could be wrong but a still is the whole apparatus...the condenser is what makes the vapor back Into the liquid. From what I was told, some people just change the condenser on the STILL, for what ever they want to make. This what I was told and that is why I come to the forum and ask these type of questions. I get conflicting info, from people AND from reading. Thanks again.

Correct , and that is all that it does, changing it wont make a scrap of difference to the final product.Hardcider wrote:the condenser is what makes the vapor back Into the liquid.
