calculations for newbie

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

calculations for newbie

Post by jeddog »

Hi all,
just getting into distilling after a year or so brewing some fine beers.
I'm from The Mornington Peninsula in Victoria , Australia and hope someone out there can help me.

I'm after the formula for water to alcohol ratio for when I'm diluting my spirit

eg.. on the weekend a friend and i ended up with 4lt of 92% spirit...how do you do the calculation to get it to 40% with out using a alcohol meter? we do have one but would like the formula

also the conversion rate for temperature when using a alcohol meter

eg.. if the spirit is 23c instead of 20c..what do you + or - to adjust the alcohol?

i did do a search of this site and couldn't find what i was after
i find the searches on forums almost impossible to use....................

stupid new guy!!

Hmm,

From parent site, look under the "distill" section. There is a dilution tab.
