Wanting to put a drain valve on the bottom of my boiler and raise the boiler up so I can use buckets to empty the boiler I had to modify my still. You can see shes a tight fit crammed into that small a space. First thought was a cross flow condenser. Searched around a bit and started thinking about this stye condenser a lot. So here is the original design I started out with.
Its basically two cross flow condensers joined together with a tri clamp (make construction easier). Water will flow threw the tubes and vapor out side the tubes.
After tinkering I managed to sketch a final front view of what Im expecting to be viewing.
I haven't worked out pipe diameters yet or length.
I know its gonna be a bitch to build but would give me 16 inches I can use to raise the boiler or even add more plates.

That's a really cool idea. So is it a RC on the right and a PC on the left? If that's the case, What about pooling in the PC?

Thats the idea combo PC / RC. I planned on a slight angle between the two condensers allowing the PC to be on a slight angle downward towards the outlet.

Height issue was exactly the reason I built a crossflow for my bok; I was able to add a solid foot to my packed height.
Sungy, while its not nearly up to the quality of your builds you might still find it interesting if only for a good laugh.

This concept design is still on the drawing board for now. I'm working on a short dephlegmator with a side discharge. The total height will be around 6 inches. The current build will be easier to build and use less materials resulting in lower cost and lighter weight and less cooling water weight. The thoughts on this are based on my current 2 stage design and its ability to hold my still in full reflux with only a 1.25 inch long first stage. With some conduction actual condenser length is probably closer to 2 inch in my current condenser. When in product collection mode the first stage of my current condenser will raise my water temp by 10 F. I find that at this temperature differential (water to room air) my cooling tower is not as effective because it is processing more water (gpm).
So the current thought is a smaller one stage condenser with a slower flow rate, will result in a higher outlet water temp from the dephleg. The bigger the temp differential (water to room air) the more effective the cooling tower because the flow rate through the tower will be slower and the contact time inside the tower will be longer.
My fear with the design that started this thread was the difficulty in controlling those large condensers especially when in product collection. But that's the risk you take when you throw something out there before you actually make it. I'm by no means a thermodynamic engineer but try to do things a little different to push the limits of my creativity and ability.
