I have a small pressure cooker I plan to turn into a thumper. Will silver solder effectively join these two metals with a good roughing up and aggressive flux?
Thanks

Yep, Harris Stay Clean flux and Stay Brite solder will certainly do the trick. Heat very slow and as low as the torch goes and keep reapplying the flux to wash away any browning burnt flux. There are a few tutorials on it. I found it quite easy once you have the right liquid flux.

Fix the gasket and use some sense. You'll be OK. Check out the link on using the Google search feature in my signature line if you haven't yet. It can be helpful. The stock search function sucks.

Thanks all...will take precautions (as with everything) regarding the meal work. As for the gasket, I can lay my hands on both food grade gasket material or boiled hemp rope. I'm sure I'll come up with something.

Just remember food grade don't mean still grade. 200 degree Etoh vapor can degrade a lot of stuff.

..the pressure cooker gasket dilemma...i remember this from many years ago...
hemp rope...its a good idea. i bet if it was tightly braided and the perfect diameter to fit ever so snug inside the lid it may work.. im sure youll be on stand-by sealing any leaks at some point tho
good solder tips Hound dog. ive been doing alot of research before attempting my build and have seen "harris" brand and "staybright" for brewing and distilling builds.

Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed , feels alone in a cruel world. Doctor says, "Treatments simple. The great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears."But doctor. I am Pagliacci."

I would think that hemp rope, wound liberally with PTFE plumber's tape, would provide the flexibility and sealing necessary to create a good gasket.
