Hooked
I'm joining this forum four years after discovering this site and finding the most enjoyable hobbie yet. I built a Nixon-Stone column and fitted it to a 55 gallon Stainless drum. I made a rum mash with local black strap molasses and bread yeast. I had the most rudimentary tools and equipment, but the thing fired off the best and cleanest shine I've seen. I kept it all a secret from the Mrs. so I onlyr ran it about twice a year. I tried and failed some whiskeys. I got measuring equipment and scores of Mason Jars, but never achieved the quality of that first run. The distilling operation usually took me a couple of days. I'd run off about four or five gallons. I once got the purity to about 90%. Who would've figured. I don't even drink much of it. I've given most away. I'm no expert, but would love to share my experience with someone new. Semper Fidelis.

How the hell do you hide it from the woman? Mine can sniff out about any project I want to do.
She alway puts these damn conditions on my play, such as "clean the garage first, or the basement, or till the garden". I would love to find some way to play, without having to do all those honey doo stuff first

The Hide and Seek Game is over!
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell. The volume I was producing eventually ratted me out. I was attending night school at the time and I had to choose one. So, I got rid of the column. School's done now, though. So, I'm planning on a new pot still. I still have the Stainless drum. I'm going to hold on to it for later projects. Sorry, for getting your hopes up. I always ran batches elsewhere. Hosts are not hard to find, when you go to college part time. College students make good helpers and tasters. I never let em know where I live. But I gave them the name of a good eye doctor.

Lol. So true Husker. You should try convincing her that your projects are attempts to condition your mind for the hard work that lies ahead in winning the bread. That you need these projects to be able to focus on the tasks at hand!! It's worth a try anyway.
They always see through the crap though, huh?
