DirectX 9c problem

Post by bushido »

On XP Pro, trying to update directX, I continually get a windows logo signing error.
I have tried several sources, eg., new games with 9c included etc., but it will not pass the logo issue. Cannot get directx from microsoft because of a validation error.
is there a way to disable this baloon, or another way to get directx to update?
Thanks in advance guys/gals.

I did it this way a while back....make sure when updates are being automatically downloaded they aren't installed until you authorise it because it will try to install the validation thing again.

1. Lauch Windows Task Manager.
2. End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
3. Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
4. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
5. Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
6. Lauch RegEdit.
7. Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify
8. Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
9. Reboot Windows XP.

Note: With this method, you may be prompted to install WGA Notifications again which can still be unselected.

Right on Coopz, but what I need is to get past the microsoft validation certificate. When I try to install directx 9c, it stops and says that the software has not passed windows logo testing. This software will not be installed.
I know why it says this, I just want to get around it

Is it trying to download part of the program and once validation gets rejected it stops? If so, will downloading the entire program from one of the torrent sites work?

It extracts the file, but before installation it attempts validation. Validation fails, it shuts it down saying, this program will not be installed.
I am down loading the torrent file though, and will try it, but I have 9c on half a dozen games that I can not get to install.
I assume I will have to find a patch to eliminate the validation check, or remove the coding in xp that searches the reg code. I haven't used a disassembler in awhile though, so I know it would be a project in itself.
Thanks for the input though Coopz, it is greatly appreciated. I'll let you know how I make out.

Don't leave me hangin! I don't currently have the problem but I may eed the knowledge in the future. Did you disconnect the net during install by any chance?
