Forum software

Post by Froggy »

I have troubles keeping track of new posts when I work between 2 or 3 different PC's. Does anyone else have this problem?
I have this problem on any forum that uses phpBB or vBulletin.

There's two problems really, the first is that if I read a post on one computer it will still show as unread on my others.
Also if I happen to open a thread and walk away for a few hours and come back, the cookie seems to expire and I don't know what posts I have an haven't read.

I run a few forums myself and I have never had this problem with the software I use.

So does anyone else have this problem?

Nope. I don't have that problem. I jump between two computers (home + work), and it always shows the new posts correctly.

I have no idea why, i.e. I didn't do anything with cookies or anything, so it just works...

Sorry I couldn't help more...

What address do you use to access homedistillers? There are problems using some versions of it. The one that works for me is

I have a similar problem Froggy except that my computer times out after only 20 seconds. I am at wits end.
Tried different browsers, settings etc. but no joy.
I figure its a personal thing, some type of payback after I typed Google in my Google search. I was warned I could blow up the internet.

What do you mean it times out? You mean after 20 seconds you've lost what posts you haven't read?

How many of us after reading that post wandered off to google and typed "google"? I think I was sucked in!

I had a look on the phpBB forums and its a common problem. They've released fixes for the problem but they dont always work.

Yup. Well, I dont really 'loose' them, they are still there but the highlight has gone and if I am doing a search or posting a reply or any such thing, if I cannot complete the operation in less than 20 secs I have to re-submit my search info or post.
If I keep changing pages or posts in under 20 secs, the highlights remain.
It may be something to do with my internet connection because when loading a page, that also times out after 20 secs but being the dunce that I am I cant find if or where I can change that setting

But Punkin, imagine how I felt after making that post, the whole site vanished into oblivion for the next 30 hours or so. I couldn't sleep for fear that some-one was coming to get me
