Hello everyone, been having fun reading and distilling but just had a question.
I've been distilling infrequently for the past year and a half and I never seem to be able to get a double distillation the way others describe it. There seems to be a sharp and unpleasant taste on the tongue through the whole thing. Tastes exactly like the heads bite. But this taste is found through all of the jars even before I blend them. Even watered down to below to 20-30 percent I can taste it.
The problem is that when I think of the alcohol I've made that I actually would want to drink, they have all been single distillations. I've tried to double distill all bran several times as sometimes the taste can be a little too strong for my liking. Each time, the jugs full of single distilled stuff taste smooth and have a delicious taste, almost creamy from the all bran cereal. Even when accounting for proof, the single distilled stuff seems to be smoother than the double without the unpleasant bite I've been getting. I almost want to give up double distillations and just go for single runs. But a lot of people seem to like it which makes me think I'm doing something wrong.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Thanks
