A friend made a sugar wash using Tubro Yeast. Which as many of you know is the yeast that comes with all the nutrients added, etc...
Anyway he distilled the was and now it smells like ammonia. I assume this is from the yeast not eating all the nutrients given. Has anyone experienced this before?
Also is there any salvaging the ethanol by running it again????
It went thru a reflux the first time so it is sitting about 91% ABV.
BAD WASH????

This probably happened because the pH of your wash was above about 6, AND you had unused ammonia-based nutrients left over in the wash after fermenting.
Try dropping the pH of the distillate below 6 and letting it stand for a day or two, and see if you get any precipitate falling out of solution. Carefully drain/siphon off the clear distillate above the sediment. If this distillate doesn't have an ammonia smell, then redistill it.
Some people would just throw the distillate out and start again.
