Flexible food safe steam tubes.

Post by yakattack »

As many of you know I built a steam rig for cooking a while back. Now that I have moved indoors by going electric, I have to redesign and rebuild it as height has changed.

Is there a flexible tubing that is food safe at the temperature of boiling water.

For those who haven't followed, this will only be used for cooking grains. Not. Transfer of hot alcohol vapor.

Any links. Thoughts. Ect.

I've been using the flexible copper pipe used on hot water heaters, but in the future I'll try the corrugated SS gas line.

High pressure chemical hoses... I have another hobby that uses them. The inside lining is PTFE with a stainless steel braided outer sleeve and stainless steel female flare connections for hookups.

I got mine for $30 on Fleabay. It is too small for a steam injector hose, but they have larger versions that would be suitable.

Edit: Novaflex is a brand that makes a wide variety of chemical hoses for different applications. They will have what your looking for. I would e-mail a representative and have them select a product for carrying water vapor used in a food grade application. http://www.novaflex.com/productcart/pc/ ... ategory=24" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

I use heavy wall silicone hose. Same stuff I use for transferring hot wort and water in my brewing process. It is good for up to around 400° f.

Having something at least slightly flexible would be cool. I wouldn't want it when I'm cooking grains because I like the way the rigid set up holds the injector right where I want it. There are other times it would be great though. Might be good if I can build a stirring injector design to keep the grains from piling up between the injectors too.

I haven't put a lot of thought into this but will be watching this thread with interest.
