First, you should work out how to digitise the stuff!

I could always put up a ventrillo server??
Ventrillo is a Voice Communication Program,
All ya need is a Mic(ya can always go to the internal chat room if ya don't got one), The ventrillo client, and the IP to connect to.

I'd be more than willing to put one up in exchange for the ability to barrage all with noobish questions

Its run on a server so its always up

I'd be perfectly happy with a repair to the java irc client on homedistiller and point it to a channel somewhere where we control the placeholder bot.
The newdistiller chanel I thought was run by Yahoo NewDistillers (isn't that Alex?) and it had the world's most annoying bot in it.

I'm actually a host for debating room that was once on msn, but after they booted all the members from Australia and Europe we moved over to everwherechat.com. Really nice server. You can use java or mIRC to access rooms.

Personally, not too fond of voice chat rooms. Had one heck of a time with yahoo, and paltalk. Alot of spam and pop-ups with those too boot!

Aside from that, along the same lines as I believe AK is trying to do... A recipie data base. I know we have the forum and all, but I'm thinking just an out and out data base, no posting allowed, but searchable by what type spirit you would wanna make. A member who has a recipie they wanna share can enter a standard "form" that describes how much water, yeast, yeast type, fruit, grain, ect. How long to ferment, pot or reflux distillation... I'm sure you get the picture.

Good idea Jaxx! A searchable database of recipes only. I would still like to see a chat function but a DB would be another worthy pursuit.

I agree. Recipe database would be real nice.
I would really like to see a botless chat too. (don't really care for voice chats)

I'm trying to set up Jabber. Once I get it done, it will support AIM, Yahoo chat, MSN etc. etc.

You know Uncle Jesse, if all web hosts put forth the effort that you do, there wouldn't be a need to ever go anywhere. I for one really do appreciate the work that you put into this site. It's one of the things that I look forward to each day.

Hey

Post by Uncle Jesse »

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you find the site useful.

I have set up Jabber on homedistiller.org. There are many jabber clients. Someone install one of them and try to connect using http://homedistiller.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow as your server, then report back to me here whether or not it works. I probably have to open up the firewall etc. but I want to make sure.

Anyone willing to help test?

I'm always willing to help (as long as doesn't give me spyware or viruses)
I tried going to chat from homedistiller, and it just brought me to some advertising page

Like Pothead, all I got was a menu. I selected 'chat room' and there were a lot of dating services but nothing on distilling.

All I did was click on the chat link on the home site. I figured something would start up and give me some options.

But I just got a pop-up advertising menu.

no wonder, who knows what that is?

what i'm setting up/experimenting with has nothing to do with the chat referenced on the home page...it's just for testing.

download Gush or another client for Jabber. Here is a list:

http://www.jabber.org/software/clients.html

Then connect to http://homedistiller.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow and create a new account.

Right now i'm online. I can't figure out how to create a chat room yet, but I will soon enough. For now I just want to verify that others can connect, create an account and say hello.

Eventually I _believe_ this should allow a large variety of clients to connect including AIM, Yahoo chat and others. For now I just want to test it.

as for a recipe database, anyone have a suggestion for software? i'm thinking of installing a distillers WIKI here, but that might be a bit of overkill...?
