Whats your job?

Post by pythonshine »

I have seen quite the spectrum of experience on many posts.I thought it would be cool to have a topic for it....a bit of back patting maybe but hell what do you do?

I have been a welder for most of my short career, now I'm an extruder operator. I make what most call "puck board" the technical term is High Density Polyethylene Sheet.

I've thought about making this thread a few times but never did. Glad someone made it!

I've been a machinist for 8 years now. Everything from aerospace to medical.

If I had a "do over" I'd be in the medical field.Maybe one day I can go back to college... again.
But what the heck do I know.....I am still learning.

General contractor, 3rd generation. Bear River is the name of the buisness. My father picked it years ago and now I use it in all my ventures.

Work now as a Gardner for a large liberal city on the central coast of California. Before that spent 25+years as a owner operator concrete pumper and 20 years (concurrently) as a chimney sweep. Before that(yeah I'm old!) I was a truck driver( both semi and mixer) and a Gardner/ laborer.

Don't be. I've just been what we call a "button pusher" for most of those 8 years. I just loaded parts and made minor offset adjustments to hold tolerance. I've been doing set ups for the last two years or so however. Just on a simple 3 axis Haas mill. Nothing fancy.

Machining is a trade, one that takes many many years to master. I still consider myself very much a novice at this game. Some days I love it, some days....I'm glad I make likker! Lol!

He is going to the Tulsa school of welding, which I understand is one of the top schools in the country. He has learned all types of welding and is now taking the course to be an inspector.( he needs to do at least 4/5 years as a welder before he can become an inspector)

General builder, in one trade or another at least 8th generation. Had two Great Great Grandfathers work on the same church one was the carpenter the other the Mason. 170 odd years later the building is as good as new. Soon after arriving here one of my Great Great Great Grandfathers built a pug cottage and almost 180 years latter it is still a family home, hope my work endures as long

Well, started off farming. organic free range pigs, chickens sheep. Sold grain wholesale, bought in bulk and milled it myself, Done rabbits too along the way. Done cutting and splitting firewood (by hand) , medicinal herbs for medicine companies, commercial veg growing too. Still got the farm now, although downscaled a lot.

I've been a camera operator in the film industry, I been a tree surgeon, a stage hand for big concerts and festivals, been a gardener in a public gardens. Done some security in my time too, mostly in the nightclubs, seen all sorts of things go on. Ran my own music festival for four years.

Going planting most of our land this year in hardwood forestry, and retraining to get my brewing diploma, and study some org chem , and apply for work in a brewery.
the forestry when established should offer lots of additional income sources, education , mushroom growing, thinnings etc.

I ain't that old really, but I quit school young, and got to work straight away. I like reading, and educating myself in all sorts, but just couldn't get by with how school tried to educate. I grew up pretty poor and working hard on the farm, so that prepared me for life pretty good! Started out with nothing and still got most of it left.
