What is the black stuff that is on my copper scrubbies after a run? It appears to comes right off in the hot backset or soaked in vinegar.

Did you do turbo? it sounds like high alkaline wash usual caused by
high nutrients left over in wash

it has to be one of too things too acid (as too much back sets)
I do not use) makes wash turn blue -black
or too alkaline ( as too much nutrients) makes distillerents
turns blue ether extremes will cause corrosion wash should be slightly
acid

I think that it's the residue caused by the copper reacting to the sulfur in the wash. I get it on the inside of my copper lyne arm and it can be wiped off with a finger. I wouldn't worry about it. It's just a sign that the copper is doing its job.

Even if your scrubbers are 100% copper, there going to blacken some.If you use too much,or not enough acid in your wash or mash,it will make them, and the copper in your still do it alot, and even discolor the spirit.I had that problem before, and it was caused by too much acid, and too much leftover neutrents.I backed off on both, and havent had it happen since.
