Wine bottles??

Post by trigger985 »

Hey all. So I just picked up 7 dozen wine bottles for $8 (for all) most clear but some green. Now obviously the most common types of storage vessels seem to be mason jars, barrels and SS kegs but how many here use wine bottles? I understand that for flavouring or aging on oak they may not be the best but after you are done it's a 750ml (26 oz for my American brothers) glass bottle sealed with a real cork cork. Seems like a good idea to me, what do you all think?
If they don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

I use a lot of 1 gallon wine jugs.
One thing I've learned the hard way.
Never fill the jug completely full and cap it.

Lol you only do that one time, leave room for expansion.

I use gallon jugs for extended aging, but for bottling I am using 750ml "two buck" chuck 750ml wine bottles with t tops. My wife drinks TBC and keeps me in bottles. Works out well.

If I had a ridiculously small still, or found myself washed up on a deserted island, I would think they were just the duck's nuts.

My fishing partner drinks Bushmill and gives me (used to give me, have too many now) his bottles. I like them as they are uniform and stack well in the cabinet.

It's good to choose a jar or bottle that doesn't come with a problem to solve. That's why all mine are chosen because they take natural cork bungs that I can easily obtain or already have.
