Recipe help needed
I was hoping you guys could help me with a few recipes, last year I had pretty good success with making a rootbeer spirit at 130 - 150 proof, I actually diluted further but it wasn't as good, I simply macerated a few bags of root beer barrels, let it sit until they dissolved and poured off the liquor to eliminate most of the sediment...
This year I want to make two new flavors, a Tootsie roll and a Dreamsicle.
First the Tootsie Roll... I really don't like the idea of macerating tootsie rolls due to the oils and other ingredients in the candy, and I don't want to use store bought liquors, it sort of defeats the purpose.
I was going to try adding Chocolate Extract and Orange extract to some 150, would it be that easy?
Just seems to easy to me. Here's a few tootsie roll drink recipes
1 oz brown creme de cacao
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1 splash orange juice
1 oz kahlua
1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz triple sec
1 splash orange juice
Now for the dreamsicle recipe, This is the recipe for the dreamsicle but I'm a bit up in the air about creamer, dry or wet, I was hoping to make these look clean and not cloudy, any tips on this? Should I just go with the creamer?
“Dreamsicle”
Ingredients:
1 ½ gallon · Orange juice no pulp
3 cup · Sugar
2 tablespoon · Vanilla extract
1 cup · French vanilla dry coffee creamer
4 cup · 190 proof
Directions
In a big pot boil everything but alcohol
Stir until creamer is dissolved
Cool to room temp
Add 190, Stir, Jar then refrigerate
Let sit for at least 2 weeks. The longer it sits the smoother it gets
It will separate while in fridge just shake it before drinking
also, any tips on making a rootbeer spirit would be greatly appreciated.

Did you actually any of these? Sorry, I like a few flavored drinks sometimes but when I read those I threw up in the back of my throat a little bit. I find strawberry panty dropper to be a big hit. Tried cherry but it came out a little like Nyquil. Peach just didn't pull any real flavor. If you want candy flavors, try LorAnn candy flavorings. A couple drops go a long way.

Re: Recipe help needed
I've had the mixed drink versions and find the Tootsie roll pretty good. But have yet to make my own version
My rootbeer I made was awesome poured over ice.
I'm little tired of Apple Pie.
Lol, if they made you heave, then these may have the same effect.
Salted caramel
Butterscotch.
Green apple
Jolly ranchers
Lemon heads.
I'll also be trying. Limoncella from zest and blueberry if I have enough product.
I still have a bit of strawberry Panty dropper, purple Jesus, purple Jesus Redeye, a bunch of Apple pie and tropical blend left so I want to change it up a bit.

DAD300 did lemoncello the easy way. Instead of taking the effort to get lemon zest, plunk in the whole uncut lemon. No white is evoked and it still draws out the oils. I did this with oranges for a friend who really likes orange vodka. She loved it.C2H5O5 wrote:I've had the mixed drink versions and find the Tootsie roll pretty good. I did it for just a couple days and it was strong. Guess it depends on your lemons and such. DAD300 did have a good tip, use organic. I guess for any of the zest or peel infusions you want as little bug spray and wax as you can get

Creamsicle "Dreamsicle" was a fail. It may have been my method but it was unpalatable!raketemensch wrote:I'm just waiting to hear about the creamsicle results...

In case you want to take another go at it, you can get most of the way there just using orange zest (outer skin above the white) in a spirit:C2H5O5 wrote:Creamsicle "Dreamsicle" was a fail. It gives exactly the kind of 'orange flavor' of a creamcicle rather than tasting like orange juice. I used glycerin to give a bit of mouthfeel, and I'm sure if you added more it would give it the impression of creamyness and add a bit of sweetness.
