Hi to all,
Just bought a 3 litre split top "column" pot still from copper-alembic.com in Portugal. I'd like to use it to test some botanical infusions with some ready (self) made vodka.
I'm a little bit concerned about it's output flow.
Just to put in context of my "worrying". We own a Mile-Hi Flute (VM style) that I'm used to seeing churning out a steady flow...
Now, this little 3 litre is outputting a few drops (at a time) every couple of seconds or so.
Some details
- I've just run water thru it. No spirits yet...
- I'm using a electric element. Standard single round "kitchen" element. It's running full power.
- It was leaking vapor but I put some flour paste on all the "sensitive areas".
- The condenser water did get warm at some point but I adjusted and it's nice and cold now.
- It's running a drop every 2 seconds or so.
Nothing really improved the flow. Maybe a bit faster once I adjusted the little problems but nothing dramatic.
I did hear a "chug a lug" sound from my output pipe. Like a train.... But no vapor, just slow slow water.
Am I missing something? Or am I just not used to this type of still?
I looked around and didn't find any specific info. Please point me to any relevant threads if this was discussed already.
Thanks!
