I've been away from the hobby for a while so I don't know "how new" it is, but just saw that Auber Instruments came out with what appears to be a nice little controller. I stumbled up it while reading this page
EZboil, Power Regulator for Boiling Process Automation $46.95
Anyone use this?
It appears to have not only PID function, but can also switch over to variable % power function. It appears to have a lot of other functions as well. The video is pretty informative.
They also have a more simple and less expensive version. If I'm not mistaken, this one is variable only. I didn't read much about this one.
Digital SSR Power Regulator for Wort Boiling Control $33.95

With more searching I stumbled on this:

Re: Auber Instruments - New Controller ! ! !
While the controllers are nice they only work with an SSR and not an SSVR. I don't see any SSRs that can handle the voltage and power needs of an electric heating element.
That said, I have built two controllers using their 25A SSVR ... I like Auber.

I do not think that is accurate.greggn wrote:While the controllers are nice they only work with an SSR and not an SSVR. I don't see any SSRs that can handle the voltage and power needs of an electric heating element.

40A Solid State Relays (SSR) are readily available and reliable. Many use them before to run a Camco 240v 5500W Ultra Low Density elements.

Actually, many SSRs are available that will do 25+ amps at 240+ volts.greggn wrote:I don't see any SSRs that can handle the voltage and power needs of an electric heating element.

Check out this thread over at the SD forums, https://www.stilldragon.org/discussion/ ... troller/p1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
There's a lot of info there that it's easier to just link you there. Auber makes exceptional products in my opinion.

Thanks Snackson, I read that the day I posted this topic. A lot of the conversation there was off topic about other units rather than focusing on the Auber unit itself. Was still definitely worth reading.Snackson wrote:Check out this thread over at the SD forums, https://www.stilldragon.org/discussion/ ... troller/p1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Re: Auber Instruments - New Controller ! ! !

Doh !
I looked at all the SSRs on the Aubens website and all I saw was the 32vDC input ... and confused "Input" with "Load."
