ceramic core element

Post by Fredistiller »

Hi everyone!

In the long story of "building my own still", I open now a new chapter: heating elements. :D

I contacted a company not far from where I live and asked about the best heating element to make compote (I make brandy and rum). They advised the traditional element, but told me they have also heating elements with ceramic "wrapped" around. They told me that it should be better to prevent scorching than the traditional ones.

here are the links:
the traditional one:

the ceramic one:

Looks like a pita to me to clean this, but I wanted to ask the advises of the community. Go or no go?

Thanks in advance,

Fred.

PS: I know nothing about the prices yet...

That would have to be used in a thermowell, not in direct contact with the wash.

Thanks for the reply. I googled it and that make sense now. But is it interesting for our purpose?

I'm using a small one right now. It's in my Reactor holding my new rum and some oak at 152F.

I'd hate to clean cooked corn off the ceramic and nichrome wire
