New from Vancouver
Hi HD, have been reading and reading this forum and am impressed with the detail and huge volume of info to be gleaned from this site.
I have been a home brewer for 20 years or more, make wine too. Spent quite a bit of time talking to the master distiller on a local island who encouraged me to join your site and learn to distil. I find it fascinating.
I love to create, build things for myself and learn. This seems like a fun and logical progression to my brewing hobby.
I like to drink gin and quality whisky.
So far I've found this forum hard to navigate compared to others that I'm involved with. Please guide me if you can.
Thanks, Rockyathabaska

Welcome - you will find that navigating this forum might be difficult but it's a lot easier than making a quality drop. Read, research, and ask intelligent questions and then you will go far in this hobby.

Welcome to the forum, lots of good information here as well as helpful people when you get stuck. I see you spelled whisky with no e that must mean a good quality Scotch Whisky. Trivia day. Did you know Scotch is the only whisky that doesn't use and E in the word whiskey like all the others.

Re: New from Vancouver
Welcome rockyb @Corene point of order , Australian single malt whisky is Whisky if you see it spelled whiskey you can assume its not single malt I believe. Most Australian whiskys are single malts and spelled Whisky . I believe New Zealand also use this original spelling

Re: New from Vancouver
And even Indian whisky is without "e". BTW India is worlds biggest whisky producer.
But yes, the traditional whisk(e)y nations are Scotland and Ireland. Ireland with e, Scotland without e. Probably because more Irishmen than Scotts settled to America, in the USA it is spelled with e.
Here on the forum, when we write whisky we mean normally something made from barley, mostly malted barley, mostly similar to Scotch Malt Whisky. When we write whiskey we mean something with mainly corn or rye.
