Aging with citrus Wood

I live in the deep South wear white oak is simply not available other than as expensive quartersawn lumber and even then that can be hard to find however I generally can find well seasoned citrus Wood and I'm thinking about toasting and charring this and aging my spirits with that any thoughts or comments

Never heard of using it.. why not test a small sample and see what you end up with? Might be the next new fad.

Did a toxicity search on citrus wood. The only thing I came up with is its inclusion in "safe" woods for bird perches!
Cage birds are quite sensitive to other certain species, apparently.

Doesn't look like it's a bad choice of woods. At least not dangerous.

i was wondering the same thing. i just ordered som orange wood and some peach. was thinking of adding it with my white oak. anyone have any ideas on to toast it or not.

I took aged orange wood and split it into finger sized prices toasting today day at 400 should have an answer is a few weeks

Hello Chickenfeed,

I don't know how much product you want to age, but you can get some of the stuff mail order. Oak alternatives (chunks) can be bought in 20 lb increments (good enough for 50 gallons) if you deal with a barrel factory.

If you want to PM me, I bought the 20 lbs, and I can share some based on cost. I also have other wood that I have been using in my aging experiments:

Sugar maple
Cherry (heartwood only not sapwood)
yellow birch

Well is been a month andi like the look and taste of theorange im thinking oak and orange willbe better
