Unless it’s something temporary the YouTube link isn’t working. It goes to YouTube but says something went wrong.

I bought a bottle online earlier today. Probably going to be terrible but I was curious.

Interesting video. I guess I could get behind something like this if the product they made tasted like a traditional quality whiskey, but that was not the case. Both the professional taster and the rookie said it was a nice tasting drink, but not like a whiskey. No grain presence (major issue) and notes not typical of a whiskey.

This is likely the future of all the food and beverages we will consume one day, bug burgers and sewage soda that seems like the real thing. I’m a big fan of science, but it sounds like they have more experimenting to do. Otis

It actually takes them a helluva lot longer than 24 hours. The 24 hours is just the final step of combining the results of numerous essences made by a number of processes that probably all took more than 24 hours.

The vanilla bean that I put in my pretend corn whiskey, (UJSSM) took way more than 24 hours for every process it went through before I bought it to put in my UJ to simulate time in a barrel, they have just taken this type of cheating/shortcut to another level.

There are quite a few tricks that can be used to simulate age. Look for tasting notes for your target product and you will find that the descriptions are an assortment of easily obtainable botanicals that can be put into ferments, washes, mashes, low wines, gin baskets etc..

So it came today... My 1stt impressions so far... Tastes like the time I used Liquor Quik Blended Scotch Whisky essence in some cheap vodka.

I believe they are not allowed to call it a whiskey, but are calling it a "spirit whiskey with natural flavors"

Sounds like a sex doll to me.

Some flavors did open up as I let it sit... Still... Lots of heads.. I think if they used a quality spirit it might not have turned out half bad.

Thanks for the update ydoih8u, nice to get a report from a trusted source.

I do think Otis is probably right, we can expect more of this sort of thing in the future.

In theory I'm not sure I'm completely against the idea. I mean I like snicker bars, and they don't exactly grow on trees.
What annoyed me about this product is the guy seemed so put out that The Man wasn't going to let him call his concoction "whiskey".
Whatever they have made with their tinctures, it sure isn't whiskey, and I'm glad that it cannot be labeled as such.

Kinda like when I bought that K-Tel album when I was a kid and was so disappointed to learn that all my favorite songs would be "not performed by original artists"
Same songs, same lyrics, but sure not the same music.

Indeed. I went in hoping for the best. It does have some interesting flavors in there. It does seem whiskey adjacent. The heads are overpowering though. There is also a very high amount of astringent flavors. Seems like glycol in there for some sweetness as well.

I think it was pretty obvious that they would miss the mark because they didn't re-distil and cut the heads from their bought in neutral, but that isn't necessarily their biggest flaw...

Flavor wise, what was missing? Can it be be added? Is it something that can be fixed in your own distillery?

I’m supprised that it has Heads smell/taste because they said in the video that they were using “medical grade ethanol”. I worked in the pharma industry for years and can say things used to make drugs were pure, and if it said ethanol it was just ethanol. My guess is they are using that term very loosely and it’s not medical grade anything as defined by the FDA. That or possibly they added Heads flavor to match the cheep shit they were trying to match?

I’m gonna keep making it the old way for now. Otis

Yeah they could have added those flavors. I'm letting it sit for awhile and I'll revisit in about a month. It was difficult to choke down though.

Go into any beer and wine supply store and you will find many ingredients meant to be added to vodka to produce ersatz whisky, rum or whatever, in addition to glycerin, caramel, oak extract etc. Check out your local liquor store, there is a long shelf of flavored alcoholic beverages. There is nothing new here. The whole story is a marketing scam using "Science" to promote this witches brew.
