my 1st question - be gentle with me.
i have seen that everybody recommends using ptfe for still seals.
here in the uk, we barely use ptfe anymore, we have switched to loctite 55.
dont get me wrong ptfe is still readily available but we have just had better results and less failings with the loctite.
the loctite is a paste impregnated string, ideal for steam as well as gas.

I would think potable water safe, vs ethanol vapor safe are two different things. PTFE is industry standard for gaskets...

Any documentation on the loctite compatibility?

The vapor proofing is why it is needed, the chemical resistance is why that particular product is used. Meaning the alcohol will not leach any chemicals into the spirit. High temp alcohol is very reactive. Most chemicals will react with it in some way. It's also why flour seals are used in lieu of PTFE in situation where PTFE won't work properly.

What is it about that quote from a Loctite 55 data sheet that makes you think that it's suitable for distilling?
