Solution Mixture Calculator

Post by 8Ball »

So, I had 1.5G of stripped low wines at 42.2%. I wanted to dilute this down to 27% using fresh fermented wash at 8.25%. This is so the resulting spirit run would yield a hearts cut in the low 60’s for aging. I found this calculator online that gave me answer I needed:

How many units of % Solution 1 must be mixed with units of % Solution 2 to get a mixture that is %

How many units of a 8.25% solution must be mixed with 1.5 units of +42.2% to get +28% mixture?

Step 1:

Let x = Number of units of Solution 1
0.0825x + 1.5 x 0.422 = 0.28(x + 1.5)
0.0825x + 0.633 = 0.28x + 0.42

Subtract +28x from both sides of the equation to isolate x:

8.25x + 0.633 - 0.28x = 0.28x + 0.42 - 0.28x

Subtract 0.633 from both sides of the equation:

-0.1975x + 0.633 - 0.633 = 0.42 - 0.633
-0.1975x = -0.213

Divide each side of the equation by -0.1975

x
-0.1975
=

-0.213
-0.1975

x = 1.0784810126582

1.08G of 8.25% added to the 1.5G @ 42.2 will give me a 27% final solution. Pretty cool, huh?

🎱 The struggle is real and this rabbit hole just got interesting.
Per a conversation I had with Mr. Jay Gibbs regarding white oak barrel staves: “…you gotta get it burning good.”
