I recently stumbled upon a still going unused in someone's garage and I took a punt and bought it cheap as the seller was unsure
a) what it actually was
b) if it was complete and functioned
Upon getting it home I suspect it is Chinese, but it seems to be a 40ish litre CM/potstill combo.
Overall the column and condenser feel pretty solid although the column is 2" but isn't very tall, maybe 18". Leak checked it all with water so far and the welds seem good. Boiler feels sturdy enough, similar sort of thickness as my pots and pans I cook in, lid is a bit flimsy.
Silicon gaskets EVERYWHERE
All the builds on here are usually a lot taller and have the RC at the top. This RC cooling jacket covers the entire column, in my mind that is would be inefficient for reflux vs having it the RC at the top of the column.
Is this just a flawed design? I was thinking if I added another 24" SS and a triclamp below, would this go someway to remedy or am I flogging a dead horse?
As it stands it cost me £40
Thanks in advance
