Sweet'n Glo 5-68 For Rum?

Post by Broken Jug »

For those who know more about making rum and the proper ingredients than I do, which is pretty much everybody, I need some help.

To begin with, I bumped into the local feed store owner yesterday while I was working. I asked if he carried bulk feed grade molasses.
He said that they do in 5 gallon plastic containers. He told me that they were $33 per-5 gallons, which is much cheaper than I normally pay for 5 gallons of molasses if you figure-in the cost of shipping. I asked if it is Blackstrap. He said yes.
I told him that I would like to buy two 5 gallon pails, which I did. He had it delivered to me free of charge, since I didn't have time to pick it up myself before his feed store closed. He's a great guy, and I really appreciated that he delivered to me for free.

When I got the molasses home, I read the label on the container, it was not what I expected.
I was going to down load a picture of the label, but I have no idea how to. Instead, I'll list the ingredients below.

After reading the listed ingredients, let me know if any of you think it will ferment-out/make rum.

The Name of the product is "SWEET'N GLO 5-68," a specialty molasses liquid sweetener for livestock feed.

The ingredients are:
Cane Molasses, Vegetable Oil, Lecithin, Glycerin, Phosphoric Acid, Sulfuric Acid, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Xanthan Gum, Propionic Acid and Sodium Benzoate (as preservatives). The label does not list the quantities of each ingredient, just the order listed on the label. I do know that the order of listed ingredients starts with the most to the least.

After I read the ingredients, I felt/feel like I made a mistake purchasing it.

But before I see if I can return it, I thought I would ask the experts here to see if it will still make rum?

Thank you in advance!
