Rhum Chauvet & Bacardi, your appreciation

Post by manu de hanoi »

Have you ever tried light or dark "Rhum Chauvet" ? What do you think about it ?
Have you ever Bacardi Carta Blanca (light rum)? What do you think about it ?

I have been trying to replicate the tutti frutty taste(like the wriley's chewing gum "juicy fruit") of the White rhum chauvet/Negrita rhum unsuccessfully ...... Untill I found out that Rums branded higher quality didnt taste like that. Then I gave up and started to think these flavors were artificially added. I still enjoy sipping the dark Chauvet though....

I find the Baccardi Carta Blanca very neutral/clean besides it's very special, hard to describe, taste.

What are you fermenting?
I ask because Rhum Chauvet is a rhum agricole, which is based on sugar cane juice, and Bacardi is a British/Spanish style rum or rhum industriel, based on molasses. Personally I prefer the Spanish and British style rum(Bacardi, Flor de Caña, Lamb's etc etc), but I live in France at the moment so it's hard to find it. I'd make it myself but it's equally hard to find molasses ;) !!!

The Chauvet I am talking about is the white one ("special cocktail"), I think one it is made from molasses too.

Hey Manu,

I did a little more research and found this: http://www.ministryofrum.com/rumdetails.php?r=388
The thing is, the info on the page is wrong. You can clearly see "Rhum Agricole" written on the label, and since Martinique is a part of France, French law says that rhum agricole must be made from sugar cane juice and not molasses.
Here's a link to the info sheet on rum regulations from the AOC (unfortunately only in french):
http://www.inao.gouv.fr/public/produits ... 6&from=src
Hope this helps!!
Cheers§

EDIT: I didnt know Martinique implied agricole, thanks for that info.
On the one I drink they dont even write agricole or martinique but "traditional from the french island"
