Is soft roll copper safe?
We are going to upgrade our copper and do a sac run, but it's my 1st time upgrading copper. Is "soft roll" safe to use from the pot to the thumper (and likely from the thumper to the jar)?

My instincts say that it is, but the word "soft" made me question rather it would stand up to the temperatures.
Thanks in advance.

Should be fine, leave it coiled until you need to work it and be aware it will work harden, so the more you bend it the harder it will get

Re: Is soft roll copper safe?
The copper itself will be perfect but what concerns me is its the bare minimum size .
Fine coming out of the thumper and into a worm where chance of plugging is almost zero but I would use larger size between Pot and thumper personally .

My recommended goto .

Try bending hard drawn and you'll understand.

I'd recommend buying 5/8 OD soft tubing for a worm.
It has a inner diameter of 1/2"
From the pot to the thumper use 3/4" or larger hard tubing and 2 unions.

As noted the soft copper tubing is what you want. I agree with Shady about getting the 5/8". That is what I used. And you can solder 1/2" pipe fittings to it.

Soft is perfect. A small tip: if you have difficulty bending it (it depends on the diameter you want) you could warm it up to soften further.

By warm it up I think you mean heat it with a gas torch until its nearly red hot .

Re: Is soft roll copper safe?
We are going ahead with the copper replacement in 2 days, and got this solder. I've soldered before, but never food-grade (let alone still temps). I wanted to make sure this was the right stuff for the job, as well.

It says lead-free and that it's made for copper pipes, but I know that everything that's acceptable for copper plumbing may not be acceptable at still temperatures.

Don't be like me and forget the flux.

700- 900 F will soften it enough to work with. Nearly red is too soft and makes it brittle as it ages. That's been what the vendors have been saying since we have to braze everything instead of soldering.

I am buying that this evening. hahaha I'm assuming that Oatey 95 lead-free is what I would need. It's the only thing my Lowes has in stock, and says lead free.

That will work.
It's a petrolatum-based flux, so it will be a little harder to clean up than water based flux.

Everything is put together, and running the vinegar tomorrow.
I know that brass isn't good to use in the vapor trail, but I've not found anywhere in my area that sells an all copper version of this union. The brass is outside, and it's a copper-to-copper compression fitting. Local plumber approved it as standard use to potable water, and it's rated for up to 400F. Any reason risk in using this?

Re: Is soft roll copper safe?
If I am seeing right, that is a standard copper union. The only brass is the nut that tightens it down, which does not come in contact. So no problem. And most new brass is lead free or real close to it anyway. So not only would I recommend using it but I have at least two of them in my system.
