So I have a new still which is 8g and has 28mm condenser piping all through with a 32mm jacket on the Liebig.
I built this still for stripping wash. Ran a test batch a few days ago and it taken 3 hours to collect 4l of distillate including heat up times. This was using a 3kw induction hob.
It's became clear that I need a more powerful heat source as I'd honestly like to half that distillation time to 4L in 2 hours. The condenser can easily handle it!
I'm considering using a 5kw immersion heater.
Is it possible to fit one of these immersion heaters without soldering? Can these be installed using a compression fitting or maybe a nut and gasket?
I built the entire still from brass compression fittings, a tank connector and copper pipe so I'm not looking to start soldering just for the immersion heater!
Also, if I plan to run the immersion heater on 5kw always do I need a controller for the immersion heater? Keeping in mind it's a 5kw element and being a stripping still I plan to run it on 5kw always for each run!
Upgrading heating from induction hob to immersion heater?
