Had some left in the boiler and thought why not just try it with plain old white table sugar? Worst comes to worst, I can redistill it, either for rum or neutral.
Put about 12L of hot dunder, 4 kg sugar on the old yeast bed for nutrients, topped it up to 25L. Little bit of fresh bakers yeast.
Fermented out well, went from 1.10 down to about 1.04 in about 4 days, from the calculators that should be all the sugar pretty much spent. Let it settle for a couple more, then ran it.
Drinking some right now, albeit mixed with coke, I am amazed how much rum flavour I'm still getting.
Only got a couple litres of it I'm happy with, but if it can help keep my hands off the good stuff and give me something to drink in the meantime... More than happy. Still has a deep, rum flavour. Still probably better than the first runs I made, due to cleaner cuts, with good taste too
