Wiki Still Gallery

Post by Hack »

I was fooling around with the wiki and made a page for people to show off their rigs. I added some pics of mine before some of the recent upgrades. Take a look. Add your own.

I thought I'd add a quick and easy how to on adding your pictures to the wiki still gallery. It'd probably make things more interesting if there was more there than just pictures of my setup.

I'm writing this assuming the person adding pics knows nothing. For the wizards out there, don't be insulted.

1. You'll need to create an account for the WIKI like you did for the forum and log in.
2. Get yourself to the Still Gallery page. On the wiki main page its almost at the bottom of the list. Or you can just follow the link in my previous post.
3. On the bottom left of the wiki page is a box labled toolbox. In that box select Upload file. Find the picture you want to upload and follow the directions on the screen. Try to give your picture a unique name like Bobs_Still.jpg so that it doesn't get mixed up with other pictures.
4. Write down or remember what you named your picture that you uploaded.
5. At the top of the Still Gallery page, if you are logged in, click the tab labled edit. This will open the page for modification. You will be able to change anything on the page including other peoples entries. Don't worry about totally screwing up the page. All modifications can be undone.
6. In the window that opens will be a bunch of gobbledygook from the other entrys. Don't worry about it and scroll to the bottom. At the end cut and paste the following three lines.

== Replace this with your still section title ==

Replace this with your picture lable
[[Image:Replace_this_with_your_unique_picture_name.jpg]]

7. Replace all the lines that say replace blah blah with what you'd like.
8. Click the preview button. You'll be able to see what the page will look like after you do your thing. If you like it click save and you are done. If you don't, tweak as you'd like until you do.

There you go, you've just added your pictures to the wiki.

Thank you for this introduction to wiki.
I am a professional programmer in c++, c# vb vb.net, unix gcc pearl, python php and many other languages, but I have yet to find good instructions on wiki. Maybe I over complicate the process.
Thanks

You're welcome. I can't say I'm any kind of expert on wiki. I do have some computer science background but all I know about wiki comes from spending about an hour poking around on the wiki. It doesn't seem much different from making a post here on the forums really. Just type in what you want to say and the buttons at the top of the type in your message box help you with all the hard to remember stuff like adding pictures, links, and headlines.

Thanks RumBull for adding the pics of your and Punkins setups.
