A legend in his own mind.
What did he contribute to this craft?

Popcorn achieved cult status here disregarding the law. What I learned from this piece was how to make a controllable fire apparatus sufficient to conduct a spirit run.

Good ‘ol boy was simple but had a likable character.

From Wikipedia: The epitaph on his footstone reads "Popcorn Said Fuck You" I can see my wife putting that on urn. LOL

Sparked the interest of distilling to many people. Myself being one of those people. May not being saying much, the same could be said about B&H george. Nevertheless he has contributed to my journey in the hobby.

This hobby really is not so much about making alcohol. But bottling opportunities to make memories with Friends and Family.

I've got nothing against celebrating outlaws, hell I'm named after one. But some outlaws are also great men while most are just 2 bit hustlers. Popcorn may not have been a particularly bad person, but I don't see how he is any more well regarded than a half decent shadetree mechanic or someone who makes a palatable apple butter.

Or the reported neighborhood lady bootlegger in Virginia/Tennessee who has been successfully making and selling 'shine to locals out the back of her house for the last 30years.

I'll admit that I admire Popcorn Sutton too, his film was part of what caught me in this hobby. He might not have invented any huge part for distilling but his personality caused a lot of people to look down this path in my opinion. Definitely a legend that will be remembered by those he made an impact on.

I reckon he's more of a local legend, never heard of him here in Tx till the show. I do like how he stashed jugs all around for people to find and enjoy. He did take the easy way out, especially for only looking at 2 years in jail, from what i understand that's all he was facing

Also had a cancer diagnosis. Prison and cancer would be pretty tough. I think he was just done with living.

Most likely I have, and it was long ago.
Court records prove Popcorn was a Real McCoy Moonshiner with a proper still.
