Hi,
I can get a really good deal on 5 x 27l bottles as used in the dairy industry. The are real nice and even have volume graduations on the side of the bottles
The problem is that they are from milking machines so there are two holes in the top, not an issue, can cope with small amounts of evaporation past PTFE seals, but the one in the base is of concern. The thinking was to machine a plug from PTFE, with very slightly tapered walls with a hole in the center to fit a laboratory glass tap. The bottom hole has an ID of 35mm.
My concern is that at 96% ABV that the very low viscosity alcohol will find its way past the PTFE plug somehow. PTFE is relatively soft so should conform to the bottle neck, just don't want to overdo it an break the bottle. Also don't want to spend the money to find that they cannot be sealed for alcohol.
Any thoughts?
