How hot is it at your house?

Post by Twisted Brick »

The weather here in SoCal has been brutal all summer, prohibiting new mash/ferments and slowing still-building dramatically. And like this weekend, we're currently in a string of days of 109F.

Gonna have to re-consider a ferment chamber for next summer, I think.

Currently sitting at 95F here. Drops to around 70F at night. It’s going to get miserable and cold here in no time. Enjoying this perfect weather smoking cigars in the garage.

Here in the part of Italy where I live there are warmer regions where it reaches 30 ° C and others that are cooler, in the evening the temperature tends to drop in general.

Reaching the end of a blazing hot summer. I've got a bunch of ferments in sealed containers that are waiting for a condenser rebuild and enough water in the tank to strip them. Our house is reasonably well-insulated but even so my last batch of beer fermented at around 26C as opposed to the 19C that I was aiming for. I too am planning a fermentation chamber for next year.

Here in northern Ontario, the weather has been kind of stable for the past 7 weeks at daytime of 22c and evening of 15c, but we are heading into the fall which will slowly drop down in temp.. at least I'm able to ferment on a weekly basic.. will be starting into wine making within the next few weeks, as the temp drops allowing the use of a fermenting belt to maintain a stable temp during the process..

TB.. does are hot temp.. remembering when I was in LA in the last sixty's, living on the ocean front, day time of 90*F, and it would cool down to low 70*F.. inland would be like 105 - 110*F..

It might have hit 80F here today. It was a pleasant late summer day. The air quality is beginning to get worse as the smoke from the Weed fire drifts north but this morning's offshore breeze cleaned out yesterday's funk. It won't be long now and I'll be cooking grain rather than Pork shoulder.

we had a cool spring and even into summer....july is usually hot...but not this year. few hot ones at the end of august which is normal, it's a 50/50month. unseasonably warm last few days though, 34*C, when usual is 20ish, but still dropping to 12 at night. its cooling off next week.
I finally quit drinking for good.

now i drink for evil.

Yessir, Mars. I'm more inland, hotter for sure. And as you know, we have an Indian summer every year, with heat (high 80's) through the middle of October. So envious of Stoney's 70F nights for ferments...

Yea we have had a spell of rainy days so it hasn't been as hot of a summer as usual. Mid eighties with 100 degree heat indexes is a mild summer for us

Ending the longest string of +100f temps in memory and my rain gauge shows 1.36in since Jun. Sam Houston said if he owned hell and Texas, he’d rent out Texas and live in hell. Pretty much describes this summer. But we’re still free…

Regardless of how hot or cold it is, if I need temperature control, I have old fridges and freezers that are capable of holding temperatures at whatever I need for fermenting and cheese making. All of them are second hand and were cheap or free. Most are controlled using STC-1000s, controlling both the compressor and a heating element.

110 F today, 115 F tomorrow in the central valley of Cal.

It was 95 F at 9 pm last night which was too hot for this shiner to make a run in the garage.

Mild winters and hot summers for me. Generally my temp control is fairly straightforward….I have a semi-bunkered garage that stays around 20-28C. I sometimes need to give a ferment a tickle with a heater overnight during winter, but that’s about it.

I’ve experimented with rotating maturing products from cooler rooms into hotter areas like the roof cavity. The climate extremes do lead to faster aging, but some of the good effects that come from oxidation don’t get sped up that way.

Well, it was 85F at 8am this morning, and only 100F tops today. There are two fairly large wildfires now raging in SoCal and all the cars parked outside overnight were dusted in ashes. Luckily, there is a hurricane expected to reach us saturday with much needed rainfall to hopefully quench the fires.

A tempest to calm the fires huh?
Ugh, I love that place but I’m glad I left when I did.

No ash here but today was a hot one. Thank Dog that our skies haven’t been smoke filled all summer from your fires like they were last year. Dog damn apocalyptic horse sh*t.

Going to be 70 today and low 60s tomorrow, nice break from the high 90s we've been having. Time to get the brewery mashing!

After 2 days of fairly heavy rain, my IBC is now full. Just need to rebuild a condenser and I can get stillin' again!

Also, temperatures are a bit more breathable.
