I've been diluting my 130% proof whisky with distilled water before starting the aging process. It usually turns out okay but I started wondering if I should age first and then dilute it down to 80-85 proof. Thanks in advance for you input.

whiskey is normally aged at about 60% or 120 proof. It is then diluted to 80 or 90 or whatever you want proof at bottling. But as suggested, read up as there are differences in how things age at different proofs. For example aging proof can affect what flavors you pull from the wood
