Hello everyone!

Post by dat480 »

Hey everybody, glad to find this site. I've been distilling for about a year, mostly sugar wash vodka, but started corn whiskey as well. I got into the hobby by accident. I had a customer who made an Uzo, he shared it with me one morning when I was doing a service call at his house. I was blown away that you could actually make your own liquor. I didn't think much of it, but a couple years later, I asked him for info on his system. He's an older guy and only dabbled into distilling, so he gave me his entire setup in exchange for a water treatment service call. Couldn't pass it up. I have to say, that I've had several hobbies, dirt bikes, guns, music, but distilling is definitely turning into a passion. Along with golf, distilling is the best way I've found to spend several hours of my day! I'm looking forward to honing my skills, as I intend to make rye whiskey for my sons upcoming wedding next year. Once again, it's good to be here and can't wait to keep learning!

Hello and welcome! this is an awesome hobby. I am brand new. I got my first still for Christmas. (5 gal pot still). I have to say it's a little addicting and I'm not even drinking it yet!! Everything is either aging or fermenting.

Yep, very addicting hobby! My wife enjoys vodka, so do some of my friends. It's fun to make something people enjoy! I have an 8 gallon reflux still with a pot still attachment. Plan on going with a 26 gallon in the future for larger batches. I have a corn whiskey aging now, not sure how it will turn out in the end.

Welcome to the group.

I keep thinking about going to 26 gallon boiler, have a 15.5 gallon Keg as my boiler now.
I put about 12 to 13 gallons in the boiler now.
It takes me about 4.5 hours from power on @ 70*f to power off.
that tells me it will probably take close to 8 hours for the larger boiler. If i put 22-23 gallons in at the same temp.
I am finding it hard to get the 4-5 hours to make a run now.
