Medical issue

Post by Forest Beekeeper »

I have had an unusual medical issue where I pass out and during these episodes, I have violent muscle spasms and injure myself. I later wake up a little foggy and I have injuries.

I have had two of these episodes. about one year apart.

For about three years I have been swimming laps at the YMCA, specifically to build my cardiovascular health, I am 64yo. And swimming laps for my cardio health seems to be about the only thing I can do for energy as I get older.

I told my doctor all of this and he suggested some tests. He thinks it is a heart electrical issue. So I have gone through an MRI test, a Echo-Cardiogram, a heart stress test, a EKG, and I wore a heart monitor for a month, and an EEG. All of my tests show that I am healthy. So he sent me to a neurologist. The neurologist looked at my chart and asked about my drinking. I admitted that I drink a glass of wine every night with dinner, and I usually have two drinks at night before I go to bed. [Given my body weight, I have already done the math, so I know that if I space my drinks out an hour apart, my BAC stays under 0.06 so I can still drive without concern for being drunk.] This neurologist is convinced that I am an alcoholic. Nobody can drink over three drinks a week, without being an alcoholic.

He lectured me about alcoholism, and what I should be aware of likely withdrawal symptoms. After that appointment, I stopped drinking. It has been 6 weeks. I am not sure how long I must wait before these withdrawal symptoms are supposed to hit me. But so far I have not experienced any.

I suspect that this neurologist is a lunatic.

Your neurologist would go into convolutions if he saw what I drink in a week.

LOL

I had never seen this guy before. His name looks middle-Eastern or maybe Muslim. I was thinking that Muslims were more strict against alcohol than Baptists. So it might be his culture.

Best we keep Religious comments out .

My old Dr was usually to busy so I got shunted to another one at the clinic . She was on my case so bad I stopped going ti the doctors for several years . I knew what she was saying but I didn’t need to hear it .

I’ve moved to new place and got new Dr . He doesn’t ever mention drinking .
He said theres a saying that if you think you drink more than your Dr , you might have a problem .

By any chance were these episodes shortly after you woke up and got out of bed, or perhaps right after you went to the bathroom and stood up from the toilet? Was it a period of high stress? Did you happen to have been doing any strenuous labor/work at the time (shoveling snow, etc).

No.

In the first, it was just after dinner, I was standing in our kitchen. My wife was there and saw it. She freaked out pretty bad that I was on the floor flopping like a fish. I cut my hand up, and my wife took me to an ER.

The second time, was a bit later at night, my wife had gone to bed before me, an hour later I was done messing around online, and on my way to bed. I blacked out, then I got up and went to bed. I did not know that my foot was bleeding pretty bad until when I woke up the next day, my foot had a wound caked in blood and dried on sheets.
