2” or 3” Column For Boka Still?

Post by Tcc123 »

I’m looking into getting a taller column to upgrade my Boka (AlcoEngine Reflux Still)

My goal is to make a high proof neutral.

I’m using a 35L BrewZilla Gen 4 (1500 Watts) as my boiler

Currently, my two options are to upgrade to a 2” x 36” or a 3” x 36” stainless steel packed column to place under the Boka. This would bring the total height of my still up to 52”

The 3” column is more expensive and will require some 2” to 3” reducers to connect to my boiler and Boka (total cost $175 CAD).

The 2” column and fittings would be cheaper at about $100 CAD, but I’m wondering if it’ll be a noticeable upgrade to the 3” column? The reason I’d want to go with the 3” is for faster runs.

I’m also wondering if 1500w would be underpowered for a 3” column?

Any tips on packing material would be appreciated as well, my current plan is copper mesh but I’m open to suggestions, thanks!
