Electric heating wand for mashing.

Post by shadylane »

This design of heater has been around for a long time. But seldom gets talked about around here.
All that's needed is an immersion heater and piece of oak to make a handle for it.
Pour boiling water over the grain, then use the wand to stir and add heat to the mash.
Pumping the electric wand up and down in the mash, while slowly moving horizontally works best.

I had one that looked identical. Found out the hard way they are not water tight. If you had a way to make sure it is definitely sealed, and if it can handle the force.

Probably not, but the one I built lasted for several years before it got stepped on and bent.
I took the plastic piece off, insulated the wires and made a handle out of a wooded dowel.
