Paper Shredder Corn Grinder

Post by Coonass15 »

I repurposed an old paper shredder to grind my corn. It does a fairly decent job. There's no adjustments for how fine it grinds but it's somewhere between cracked corn and course grits. It took a lil bit of troubleshooting to get it to feed correctly but I believe I have most of the kinks worked out of it. The only drawback is that it has an overheat circuit and the most you can grind at once is about 10 pounds before you have to let it cool down.

That's not such a bad idea. Better than beating the life out of roller mill.

Very innovative idea that, I like it!

I bet it's a noisy devil though, I've never used a quiet paper shredder.

It's a bit noisy but not terrible. I have a video of it running but it won't let me upload it on this site

Probably no louder than one of the cheap Chinese grain mills I guess

Interesting, guess those shredders are tougher than I thought. I am always removing staples before shredding documents.

what does the corn look like after it's "shredded"? is it cracked or a finer grind?

There's a lot of plastic in those shredders. Any mill or grinder I've used in the past with much plastic has had a short life. But it's definitely clever. I am also interested in the resulting grind appearance.
