Dephlegmator. Take 2.

Post by prattman92 »

Okay. My last deph had some problems. And I was gifted more 4” from a real generous plumber at work, as long as I started a new dephlegmator. And here is my progress so far.

I started with making some circles and hammering them flat and opening up my 4” to fit my ss ferrule.

Silver soldered the ferrule on one end.

Then I started the process of putting holes in the circles.

Nice work, looking forward to seeing it comes together.
Not to sure how you are going to proceed but can I suggest that you drill your water inlet and outlet holes prior to setting your vapour tubes, one slip with a drill and a lot of work needs to be undone, I very nearly did that very thing.
Damp rags help, depending on wether you are going to set your tubes then slide it in or assemble everything and solder.
I set every thing in place and try to get all the joints done at once

Yes. Thank you for your input.

My next step, is to solder the inner “cage”
Then I can get my measurements to drill my 3 holes in my outer shell. I’ll have a water inlet, outlet, and a 1/4” bleed port.
Drill the holes
Set my cage in and solder that
Put the last ss ferrule on and solder that.
Then the water ports last.

Although the total height of my outer shell is 6”, I plan to only have a 4” space for the water chamber.

Finished the holes in my plates. Used a 7/8” step bit for all my holes. Full send for the 3/4 pipe and just checked it every so often to see if my 1/2” pipe was the right size. Had to take them apart and do the bottom piece separate so the 1/2” was the right size.

Looks like knockdown power and throttle response to me.

Here's a thought for plumbing the water jacket.
It might be better to have the inlet and outlet on different sides for cooling purposes.

I just finished soldering my cage and was just contemplating that very thing. I’m going to do that then.

I’m also working on my cooling system bc I use a 55 gal drum for a recirc system. I’ll throw that in my flute build thread when it’s ready though.

Here is my inner water jacket or cage or whatever you wanna call it. It’s 4” the top is flush and the bottom will have a small maybe 1/16-1/8” over hang.
