Hello

Post by td123 »

Hi All,

I am new to this forum and just realized that I needed to post in Welcome Center in order to get approved by a moderator so that I can see some of the images that other forum members are posting. Hopefully this post will get me approved.

I've been reading a lot of posts and trying to figure out if everyone that makes their own Whiskeys, Brandy, Rums... product if it is substantially better than their Commercial middle of the road counterparts. I'm not a distiller so I have no reference to compare products.

I would love to hear from some of the experts on this forum on their true comparison of their final product compared to its "middle" of the road commercial counterpart.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum . I am surprised that you need to be a member to see pictures. This used to be the only distilling forum that you could see them as a non member :|

Welcome to the club 🍻. Many wonder, including myself at one point,if a better product can be made at home. It most certainly can. But you'll need some experience which will include some success and some failures. That's part of the process. Lots of good people here to help and many great recipes in the tried and true section.
Most important is "patience". It takes time on oak for your spirits to mature. I find at least 10 months, after that it just gets better and better.
There's lots to learn at every step of the process.
Start reading. Stay safe
I drink so much now,on the back of my license it's a list of organs I need.

Hello and welcome!! I think when you make your own stuff, you make it your own. To your own liking. When you can tweak something to just how YOU like it, it might not be better, but you like it better. My first rum is like that. I know it's not as good as what is on the shelf, but I like it better.
